Here are the 5 best sunscreens for combination skin I have tried. You would think having combination skin would be ideal because you aren’t at either spectrum of the other skin types like oily or dry. Yet finding products carter to us can be tricky, especially when it comes to sunscreens.

They can either feel too greasy on the skin or too dry! All while beauty companies roll out new sunscreens every year, making it overwhelming to choose a sunscreen!

Sun exposure can be harmful to anyone, regardless of what kind of skin they have, and sunscreen is the best way to protect against it. That’s why in this post, I am reviewing sunscreens that I have used and recommend to my fellow combo skin types! All of these work well under make but if you want more options, I also have a post on “The 8 Best Sunscreens To Wear Alone Or Under makeup”.

What To Look For In A Sunscreen If You have Combination Skin

A lightweight sunscreen is best suited for combination skin. Look for a sunscreen that is oil-free and non-comedogenic, which means that it won’t clog the pores. To get the best protection use sunscreen with SPF of at least 30 and reapply every 2 hours. Also, make sure it provides broad-spectrum coverage against UVA and UVB radiation. All sunscreen on this list covers all the above and I hope it has made it easier when shopping for sunscreen. Whichever option you choose, make sure you wear it every day—you won’t regret it!

Cetaphil Sheer 100% Mineral Liquid Sunscreen  SPF 50

  • SPF 50
  • Mineral sunscreen
  • Water-resistant (up to 80 minutes)
  • Contains vitamin E ( which helps with skin inflammation)
  • Consistency is liquidy and thick
  • Pros: High SPF, ideal for use under makeup
  • Cons: Takes time to rub into the skin and can leave a white cast if not rubbed into the skin

Takeaway:  I had to rub this one a bit to work it into the skin. Which I was expecting since this is a physical sunscreen. I do like that it’s a higher and mineral sunscreen and will use it for beach days.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Non-Greasy Moisturizing Sunscreen Lotion

  • SPF 30
  • Water-resistant for up to 80 minutes
  • Water gel lotion
  • Consistency is runny and watery but absorbs quickly into the skin
  • Pros: Gel-like and cooling to the skin, bigger size 5.0 fl oz
  • Cons: It has fragrance, smells like a bar of soap

Takeaway:

Impressed with the consistency of this sunscreen which was very gel-like and watery. I would wear this on days when I plan to be active and or play a sport.

EltaMD UV Clear Facial Sunscreen Broad-Spectrum SPF 46

  • SPF 46
  • Contains Niacinamide (which help to reduce the appearance of blemishes and discoloration)
  • Calming to rosacea and acne-prone skin
  • Consistency is lightweight like a lotion, it does take a few minutes to sink into the skin
  • Pros: Dispensed in a pump, contains Niacinamide
  • Cons: not water resistant nor fast absorbing like others on the list

Takeaway: This one feels like a face lotion more than sunscreen and it’s more expensive than the others on the list.

La -Roche Posay Anthelios Clear Skin Dry Touch Sunscreen SPF 60

  • SPF 60
  • Water-resistant for up to 80 minutes
  • Fragrance-free
  • Consistency is light and feel mattifying, absorbs quickly
  • Pros:High SPF , excellent for oily and acn- prone skin
  • Cons:Although it’s fragrance free it does have a slight medicated scent to it but it’s not too strong.

Takeaway: This is a great sunscreen to have on hand, especially on days when my skin is more oily. If you want something that absorbs fast, this one is great! It almost felt like I wasn’t wearing anything on my face.

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Weightless Sunscreen SPF 30

  • SPF 30
  • Vegan and cruelty-free
  • Oil-free
  • Consistency is lightweight, air soft texture that feels as if its barely on the skin
  • Pros: lightweight, easy to apply and spread out, not greasy or shiny.
  • Cons: If you don’t like scents this is a scented sunscreen. Tropical scented which smells like coconut and mango.

Takeaway: This is great for an everyday moisturizer but when I’m out in the sun I would use a sunscreen with a higher SPF. I wouldn’t wear it for a beach day since it’s not water-resistant.
